Questions these episodes answer
Why do talented people get stuck in the music industry?
Caroline Ravn says a few passive choices let years pass without real development. Success in music is personal and tied to relationships, so it rarely transfers to a new job the way skills do elsewhere. People also get paid in friendship, hangouts and free beers instead of money, and stop noticing they gave up their ambitions.
Why don't music companies hire a professional CEO to replace the founder?
Ravn says founders rarely bring in outside management because it takes money and feels insecure, and the first person from outside is missing years of company history. Most founders stay CEO until the company itself ends, running ground-level work like managing artists instead of stepping back to run the business.
What career options does a young person in music actually have?
Ravn lists three paths: a fair but boring job at a big organization, founding a company unpaid for years while doing a side job, or working hard for someone else's company for little pay. She says most people who cannot get the first or third option end up starting something on their own, slowly and without real experience.
