Svitlana Pozniakova, CEO of Nexro, explains how her royalty-exchange startup pivoted into an AI platform that predicts artist careers for labels.
Questions these episodes answer
What does Nexro do for artists and labels?
Nexro gathers data on an artist and uses it to predict where their career is headed, rather than using AI as a marketing buzzword. Pozniakova says the company focuses on turning scattered data points, from streaming to social media, into an actual prediction that managers and labels can act on.
What did Nexro originally set out to build before it became a prediction platform?
Nexro began life as a royalty exchange, a marketplace where people could buy and sell a share of an artist's future royalty income. Pozniakova says the idea started as her and her co-founder's masters thesis project before it grew into an actual company under an earlier name.
How competitive was the royalty-exchange space when Nexro started?
Pozniakova says several similar blockchain-based royalty exchanges existed at the same time, including one called Royal that had already raised a large amount of funding. That crowded field, combined with what customers actually responded to in meetings, pushed Nexro to rethink its whole approach.
How does Nexro's AI model predict an artist's career?
Pozniakova says Nexro's first AI engineer chose a model normally used in finance, one built to handle many different factors and time series data points at once. The team feeds it data from an artist's streaming numbers, social media activity and radio play to generate its career predictions.
Is Nexro talking to major labels like Sony or Universal?
Yes, according to Pozniakova, though those conversations are still early. Nexro's main focus remains independent artists and independent labels for now, but she says getting either major to actually use the platform will still take considerable time to develop.
