Questions these episodes answer

What is Sørveiv and how is it structured?

Sørveiv is a music industry festival and conference in southern Norway, run by co-owners Hannah and Lena. What started as one combined event is now split into Sørveiv Live, its concert program, and Sørveiv Conference, a business and technology track that grew large enough to become its own thing.

Why did Hannah and Lena decide to buy Sørveiv?

Lena was originally hired as head of festival, and when the previous owners had to sell, she and Hannah had already spent time talking through their shared goals and vision for the work. Buying the event was a natural way to keep pursuing that vision and build a bigger network in the process.

What is the biggest problem in music technology right now, according to Sørveiv's founders?

Hannah and Lena say the biggest fear people have is AI and not understanding the data behind it. Tech companies want to profit from that data while artists and rights holders want to be compensated for the material it is built on, and neither side fully trusts the other yet on who actually owns it.

How does Sørveiv pick artists for its live lineup?

Sørveiv is strict about who gets to play, reserving 30 % of the lineup for artists from its own region since they otherwise struggle to break into other Norwegian festivals, and keeping most of the bill unsigned overall. The goal is to give labels and booking agents an actual chance to discover and sign new talent instead of watching a band that already has a full team behind it.

What inspired Sørveiv's music technology conference?

Hannah says she attended the online festival Music Tectonics, where startup companies talked about the evolution of technology in music. That experience gave her the first ideas for building a Norwegian conference with a full focus on music tech, since no local event covered that ground yet.
