Questions these episodes answer
How does Beatchain make money without charging artists a subscription?
Beatchain is free for artists to join and charges pay-as-you-go instead of a subscription, because artists who release music only a few times a year tend to cancel a monthly plan between releases. Local partners pay to white-label the arena and advertise it, and Beatchain shares the revenue that artists generate on the platform with those partners.
How does Beatchain use AI to check music before distribution?
Beatchain built a quality-control AI system that checks every track for fraud, copyright infringement and correct metadata such as artist name, artwork text and explicit content across many languages at once. Mendoza says it runs at roughly 88 percent accuracy compared with 70 to 80 percent for human reviewers, and does the check in seconds rather than the tens of minutes a human needs.
Why is Beatchain expanding into markets like India and Africa instead of the US or UK?
Mendoza says emerging markets have far more growth in artists and audiences than New York, LA or London, even if returns come slower. Reaching them required solving local payment problems, such as setting up Beatchain India Limited to support UPI payments and supporting mobile money in Africa, since Western credit cards are not the default way people pay there.
What does Ben Mendoza think about AI-generated music like Suno tracks?
Mendoza says AI is an amazing tool for getting past writer's block and can produce genuinely good music, citing an AI track called Orion 7 that he liked without realizing it was made with AI. But he believes a real musician should then perform what AI helps create, since the human performance and interaction with an audience is not something a computer on stage can replace.
How many independent music creators are actually signed to a label?
Citing a media report and Goldman Sachs figures, Mendoza says there are roughly 76 million music creators, but only about 0.2 percent of them, some 150 to 200,000 artists, are signed by any major, sub-label, independent label or manager. Beatchain's scoring and leaderboard system is built to help sponsors find talent among the other 99.8 percent.
