Episodes (1)
Jørgen Iden, co-founder and CEO of Crescat, explains how collaborative software replaces outdated riders and running orders in live event production.
Questions these episodes answer
Why do production plans go wrong at live events?
Iden says the industry relies on riders, day sheets and running orders that get revised as an event's planning progresses, so by the time crews show up they often have an old version, meaning timings are off and people turn up hours early or late for their shift.
What makes Crescat different from older event production software?
Older competitors are largely silo systems built for a single production manager, who then emails out PDFs. Crescat instead lets a promoter invite the venue, the sound company and the artist into one shared plan, which Iden says is the main thing that sets it apart from software some competitors first built in 1989.
How did the COVID pandemic help Crescat grow?
Iden says Norwegian venues could not lay off staff during lockdown, so they used the downtime to implement Crescat and work closely with the team, which gave the founders access to industry experts they would not otherwise have reached, and usage grew steadily even before live events resumed.
Why is Norway a good place to test an event-industry startup before expanding abroad?
Iden argues Norway is one of the best countries to build and test an MVP because the market is small enough to iterate quickly, but that advantage disappears once you look for capital, since Norwegian investors mostly understand fish and oil rather than music technology, making outside investment necessary to scale.
